Algarve Historic Festival 2011 - 21.10.2011

The final round of the 2011 historic season took place down in the Algarve at the fantastic Portimao Circuit.

Roger had an exciting weekend with two "new" cars in the lineup. Firstly the Tyrrell P34/2 which was making it's contemporary race debut following a sympathetic restoration by WDK Motorsport. Racing in the FIA Historic Formula One series Roger took an amazing 3rd place overall in race 2 and 4th overall on the agrregate result. The car not only looked great, but went very well too.

The second new car was the Talbot 105 team car that John Ruston very kindly invited Roger to drive over the weekend- this would be Roger's first experience of pre war motor racing! In race one he finished a very respectable 5th and in race two he bettered it with a 4th.

Elsewhere, sharing with Joe Twyman the duo took a 3rd place overall in the 2 hour 50's sports car race driving the ex Graham Hill Lotus XV and a 4th overall in the 1000km Pre 72 Sports car race driving the McLaren M1B.

Unfortunately the weekend was marred with an accident in the final race of the weekend. It was the second HGPCA race and Roger was looking to top his 2nd place in race 1 with a win in part 2. Things were all going to plan and whilst in the lead Roger suffered an accident at the final corner. There was a small fire, but luckily Roger walked away with minor cuts, bruises and burns. The marshalls did a fantastic job as did the car in ensuring that further damage wasnt done.
