Brands Hatch Masters - 27.05.2012
The Brands Hatch Masters event was a busy weekend for Roger and the team.
Highlights of the weekend came in the form of wins in the Lancia LC2 and McLaren M1B. The Lancia, making its debut under Wills' ownership won the 40 minute Interserie race on the Saturday in preparation for the support race at the Le Mans 24 Hours. In a mixed grid, Roger built up his speed and drove a consistent race to take the win from David Mercer in a Spice Group C car and Simon Hadfield and Leo Voyazides in a Lola T280.
Sharing with Joe Twyman in the McLaren M1B, the pair won the Sports Racing Masters event by nearly a minute for the second year in a row. With pole position and fastest lap aswell it was a clean sweep.
A further podium came with Joe in the 90 minute Gentleman Drivers race where the duo finished a strong 2nd to the TVR of Mike Whitaker and also in the Mercury Comet Cyclone with Brendon Hartley taking a 3rd place overall in the last race of the weekend.
Hartley also shared the McLaren M1C in the WSM but gearbox woes thwarted any real progress and the car was retired from the race after just 5 laps.
In the Grand Prix Masters races, Roger drove the iconic 6 wheeled Tyrrell and took a combined result of 4th overall, whilst Hartley in Roger's Lotus 92 took the overall win by 8 seconds.
In the early HGPCA races, Roger debuted the ex Graham Hill Lotus 16 and qualified on pole in the front engined class of the event. Unfortunately in race 1 a cracked rear brake disc lead to an early retirement. For race 2, he swapped to his Monaco winning Cooper T51 and charged through from 30th on the grid to 8th at the end of the 20 minute race.
