Positive Start at Le Mans Test - 28.04.2011

Sunday saw the return of the once traditional Le Mans 24 Hours official test day and CRS Racing came away from a busy day on track with a positive feeling about the forthcoming race in June.

Roger and team-mate Shaun Lynn have both raced at Le Mans with success but in the historic category so Sunday was their first experience of a modern GT car at the renowned La Sarthe Circuit. Team-mate Pierre Ehret knows Le Mans well and has already competed in the twice round the clock endurance 4 times between 2006 and 2009.

CRS Team Principal Andrew Kirkaldy took to the track first in order to set a baseline lap time before handing over to the Le Mans drivers.  Shaun and Roger had to complete 10 laps of Le Mans in order to pass the rookie test and become eligible for the big race.  Both had a good amount of time in the car and are feeling confident for the race ahead of them.

“I won’t ever forget getting in the Ferrari and driving down the Mulsanne Straight for the first time,” said Roger. “It took me nearly all day to get over that!  This is a special place. The focus this morning was on getting our ten laps done but this afternoon we had long runs so you can really get to grips with the car and chip away at the lap times.  This is a boyhood dream come true, without a shadow of a doubt.”

Based on an average lap time between the three drivers, the 62 car ended up 2nd in GTE Am category. Roger who was fastest of the three, set a very impressive lap time of 4:07.995 outpacing many of the pro cars/drivers.

“To be as close as we are to some of the GTE Pro teams is encouraging and I am sure there is more time to find come race weekend. The team have done a great job and I think the three of us have shown today that we can go into the race with good level of confidence to be competitive for class honours.”

Pierre, Shaun and Roger will be on track together again in just two weeks when they compete in the second round of the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup at Spa in Belgium, the last stop before Le Mans!
